Homes across the the United States have gotten drunk on the high aesthetic that is Baby Nightsoil Home Décor. As the laws of interior design continue to be repealed by terrorists of good taste, more and more people are embracing non-traditional art, adding unique pieces such as Baby Nightsoil throwpillows to tie their home environments together. With the rising popularity of these bold accoutrements, no portion of the population is more thrilled than our friends in the animal kingdom.

bear

In the photograph above, you’ll see a wild yet sharply dressed bear snuggling with a pillow that tells a love story that is open to interpretation. The bear and pillow are in Atlanta, Georgia. Bears have always complimented Baby Nightsoil art and the other way around. The shared worldview of fuzzy peace through loud roars unites them in life and in art.

Even more than bears, Baby Nightsoil has had a long connection to cats- perhaps rivaled only by the connection between Baby Nightsoil and the panda, which is essentially a cross between a cat and a bear. In the picture below, which comes to us from Brooklyn, New York, you’ll see two cats dance the magic dance over a pillow that celebrates centuries of dignified beauty among felines.

Several time zones to the left in Los Angeles, California, we find a cat  warming up next to a pillow portrait of a cat who is a member of at least one Catwoman fan club.

Join these forward-thinkers and stock your home with Baby Nightsoil Home Décor! Your animal friends will thank you, possibly with dead animal friends. Please send pictures of animals enjoying their newly enriched environments and I’ll post them here. The pillows make excellent gifts for cats, bears, dogs, co-workers, ferrets, snails, significant others, birds, planes, speeding bullets, cowboys, aliens, predators, garbage pail kids, alligators, and grandparents. Several other items are available including, but not limited to, duvet covers, shower curtains, mugs, clocks, and tote bags.

Yesterday I received the Baby Nightsoil Series 5 Stickers in the mail. This batch is even bigger than Series 4, making it the biggest batch yet. A complete set would include 8 stickers. You may notice somewhat a return to pandas in the batch after exploring other critters in Series 4 and Series 3. This series contains a panda tribute to the recently deceased Hot Rod Rowdy Roddy Piper, a throwback from the Super Mario calendar, and some lovely panda ladies. This series also includes a sticker that will only be available for the next four days while supplies last during Atlanta’s notorious science fiction/fantasy convention Dragon Con, a send up of Jim Jones of the People’s Temple and J’onn J’onnz the Martian Manhunter, founding member of the Justice League of America. If you’re interested in any of these stickers and you’re attending this year’s convention, there are two easy ways to track me down: 1) Go to the Art Show between 3pm and 8pm and look for the most overwhelmingly handsome volunteer which will be me. 2) Attend the DC Comics an Cultural Studies panel on Monday at 2:30pm in Hanover F (the Comics track room) at the Hyatt. I like to trade stickers for art, comics, and pictures of cosplayers.

Here’s a look at the Series 5 stickers in all their glittery glory.

stickersseries

Series 4 stickers are available now. This series is special for a number of reasons.

1) It’s the biggest batch yet. If you want some, contact me at waynexiaolong-at-gmail.com. They’re not exactly for sale, but I’d love to trade them for help/collaboration on some of my projects (coloring, modeling, writing, etc.)

2) They sparkle in the sunshine, but don’t worry- it’s still 亲爱的 Dracula, not 亲爱的  Twilight.

3) No pandas….what?!? This batch honors some of my other favorite critters in the animal kingdom.

4) Several feature cat erotica. By fateful coincidence, I was visiting one of my favorite friends the same weekend I picked up these stickers. I had totally forgotten my friend was a cat erotica enthusiast! Maybe the next batch will have some sexy gentlemen in them…

5) Some are cut to look like creepy polaroids in a 1970s animal kingdom pornography basement.

Boy With Clouds

Here are a few drawings I did last week. Two pandas and two cats.

My Last Best Friend

yujiawawa

Here’s a picture I did for one of my wife’s old high school friends. She and her husband recently had a baby. Their daughter is pictured playing with a pack of cigarettes and adjusting her sunglasses. They live in Zhuhai, Guangdong province..

lilaskin

Here’s a picture I did a year ago for some friends when they became new parents. I’m going to do another picture of their son and plan to do one every year. The boy’s father is an old comrade of mine, benim yoldaş, who makes really good cheese and champagne at his farm in Maine. The boy’s future will surely be the stuff of legend.

adamshouse

This first picture was done as a birthday present, a wolf-bat visiting upon the home of the birthday boy in question. The birthday party itself was pleasant and included a nice spread of grilled meat action and traditional sides. As far as I know, no bat penis was served, but there were hot dogs and while the presence of such exotic fare as chiropteral phallus muscle would surprise me, it is not beyond the realm of reasonable ingredients. I myself had a delicious burger, expertly seasoned and grilled. During the time I was at the party, the music played predominantly was Madonna.

slicepeeps

This second drawing features some of the staff from Slice of Brookhaven, a friendly pizzeria and bar located in Brookhaven, which neighbors Atlanta. The staff there is very pleasant and the pizza is top notch. I host pub trivia there every Tuesday at 8pm and encourage you to come by. I always ask a DC Comics question and I think I put together a pretty good trivia DJ set list. I struggled at first with the musical demands of the trivia host because I was hung up by some of preconceived notions on transforming a space with music- I was born to score alien weddings, robot pornography, and non-consensual ketamine dosings, so adjusting those artistic sensibilities to fit the trivia vibe took a few tries. Eventually I stopped worrying and learned to love classic rock, but I assure you I’ve retained some of the spirit of the fringe. Hopefully I’ll do a few more panda portraits at the restaurant. I like the look of the place and after all is said and done, if an artist truly wants to celebrate the beauty of life, surely their themes address the sophisticated psychic power imbued in pizza. The staff all wear red shirts, which makes them easy to identify but lowers their chances of survival should they be sent out on a mission by Captain James Tiberius Kirk. That’s the cost to be the boss, I suppose.

dioesmuertosaurus

Here’s another batch of panda artifacts that I’ve been working on. In the first one, I’m trying out a couple of things. I’ve filled the eye sockets with a red that equally romantic and demonic. Additionally I’ve added some patterns on the face, inspired by the many Dios Los Muertos faces I’ve seen recently, and then I colored the flesh, which I usually leave white, an orange, in hopes of evoking fond tiger spirits.

Fashion meets nature

In this picture, I’m nonchalantly drawing parallels between flowers, hair, and stars. I’m trying to generate a feeling of repetition without actually using repetition, like varying a phrase in music. Nothing heavy.

eyore

The color schemes here are taken from Disney’s interpretations of beloved childhood shoe-gazers Winnie the Pooh and his jackass friend Eeyore.

billion$babypanda

This is a picture of Kiwan and Jennie from Billion Dollar Baby, an Atlanta-based musical duo that I met at Wonder Root. One of the first things I noticed about Kiwan was his jewelry, which he wears every day. Those of you who follow this blog will understand why I was immediately attracted to it. Jennie and I were interviewed simultaneously a few weeks back. I’m not sure when it will become available, but I’ll likely let you know. You should keep your eyes and ears peeled for Billion Dollar Baby.

I’ve been volunteering at Wonder Root Community Arts Center in the Reynoldstown neighborhood of Atlanta for the past few months. It’s a great place that offers a recording studio, performance venue, darkroom, digital media lab, art gallery, and community garden to its members for a very low rate ($10 a month or $60 a year) and it also participates in scores of community programs and activities. I drew the picture of the center above and it now hangs in the Wonder Root community library, which houses a lot of issues of ArtPapers, many rare art publications, and a cigarette machine turned art dispenser. Last week I was asked to draw a picture on the door, which the center has been sporting for a few days so far. While chalk has frustrated me as a medium, particularly when I was teaching, I managed to make a friendly doodle that I figured I’d share with y’all. It contains elements of Wonder and elements of Panda.

A friend of mine suggested several popular figures for me to depict as pandas. Among her suggestions was NYC mayoral candidate and sexting champion Anthony Weiner, depicted here with his incredibly supportive wife Huma Abedin. If you are interested in seeing more of Weiner, you may want to check out these graphic images of his penis. If you are not interested in seeing his penis, I strongly suggest you don’t click on that link and click on this link instead. While drawing the disgraced politician, the Flaming Lips’ “The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song” came on and it got me thinking about the Flaming Lips, no strangers to sharing pictures of weiners, and I came up with a little play on the Yeah Yeah Yeah Song.

(to the tune of “The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song”)

If you could use a digital camera to take a picture of your dick,

would you do it?

YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH, YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH

If you could share it with your base on the internet,

would you do it?

YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH, YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH

If you could write explicit messages to women who aren’t yr. wife,

would you do it?

YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH, YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH

If you came thinking about me and wanted to tell me about it,

would you do it?

YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH, YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH

And so we cannot know ourselves or what we’d really do

With all your power

With all your power

What would you do?

If you tell the public that you’ve cleaned up your act,

would you do it?

NO NO NO NO, NO NO NO NO

If you could treat the Palestinians with a small amount of respect,

would you do it?

Are you crazy?

Here’s another panda series. It’s a small one based on a few male recording artists who make pretty different music. The series starts with a picture inspired by Robin Thicke and friends’ somewhat tacky video “Blurred Lines.” For the hashtag, I used Futura Condensed Medium and it looks pretty close to me. If you know which font was actually used, I welcome correct answers or even speculation in the comments section.

Next we have a musician of significantly more talent and humanity, one of country music’s greatest, and a damn good story-teller Hank Williams, Sr.
